How to prepare your file for 3D printing
Preparing an STL, 3MF or OBJ file for 3D printing: accepted formats, size limit, units, print settings and what we cannot price automatically.
Use STL, 3MF or OBJ
We accept .stl, .3mf and .obj files, up to 50 MB each. The file extension and the contents must both match the format, so renaming a file will not work.
Units are millimetres
STL files have no units, so we read them as millimetres. Export or scale your model in millimetres before you upload it.
Several models, one colour each
You can upload several models at once: up to 5 in a basket, or up to 30 if you are signed in when you start. Each model gets its own material, colour and print settings.
Choose your print settings
Layer height: 0.08, 0.12, 0.16, 0.20 or 0.24 mm. Infill: 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 40, 50, 75 or 100%. Walls: 2 to 6. Supports: automatic or off. If you change nothing, we use 0.20 mm, 15% infill, 2 walls and automatic supports.
Supports are removed by hand
If a model needs printed supports, we remove them by hand before handover.
When we cannot price it automatically
If a model does not fit the printer bed or needs more than one plate, the calculator cannot price it automatically. Send us an enquiry and we will advise on options. The same goes for a custom model. The printer's build volume is 256 × 256 × 256 mm; the calculator checks whether your model fits.
What happens to your file
Uploaded but never priced: we delete it after 24 hours. Priced but not turned into a request: we delete it after 14 days, when the indicative price expires. Used in a request: we keep it for 12 months for your order. We process it on our own server in the EU and never share it with third parties.
